INHALE Flash Mob

INHALE, an urban fantasy romance by Kendall Grey, is now available in paperback and e-book for Kindle (MOBI) and Nook (EPUB). INHALE is the first book in the JUST BREATHE trilogy. Kendall is donating all profits from the sale of the trilogy to programs that educate people about whales and the challenges they face. Watch the video to find out why.

Kendall encourages interested readers to consider purchasing an e-book instead of a paperback. E-books save trees, cost considerably less, and bring in much more money for the whales.

Thank you for supporting INHALE, and most importantly, the whales that need our help.

Book Recommendation: Inhale

I wanted to recommend a book that is coming out in a month. May 1st the first book in the Just Breathe trilogy will be released on Amazon and Barnes and Noble and other sources I'm guessing. I don't do a lot of book recommendations, and I keep wanting to do more, but I always end up researching weapons instead. But here is one today. Add it to your wishlists or whatever you have (To-Read List on Goodreads) and enjoy!

Inhale (Just Breathe, #1)Inhale by Kendall Grey

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I’m floored. I am not a big fan of romances but I am really getting into urban fantasies. This book was more than I expected it to be, and believe it or not, I had high expectations. That said, no book is for everyone, and Inhale was not my usual taste, but I thoroughly enjoyed the story. It flowed smoothly, was written very beautifully and it was obviously edited professionally. This book isn’t just a well put together novel by an Indie writer; it was well put together for a traditionally published novel. If you’ve read my reviews in the past, I don’t knock the rating down for editing, but I’ll always point it out. I had no complaints whatsoever with the editing in Inhale.

Book Recommendation: Shift

I absolutely love this series and I'm very excited that Matt Merrick takes himself seriously as a writer. After publishing Exiled and then seeing the critiques about a couple of typos, he gave Shift double the attention. Replacing his original editor and then adding a second copy editor, along with an army of beta readers, Merrick has outdone himself. Not only is the writing improved but the advanced editing is obvious and has made Shift one of the few books I would place out there as a must read for anyone who loves action and adventure fantasies. Here is my review for Goodreads, that will soon be on Amazon. Happy reading everyone. I'll be back Monday with a new weapons weekly about the Aztec culture. Have a great weekend.

Shift (The Protector, #2)Shift by M.R. Merrick

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

If you loved Exiled, you'll absolutely love Shift. This sequel to the action packed adventure Exiled takes you on another journey through dimensions and battling demons. Chase and company try to not only save the universe, but find out the truth about themselves. Merrick's writing has improved a great deal since Exiled, it's phenomenal actually. Not only has he improved his editing by far, and Exiled wasn't that badly done, but his ability to make the characters even more real has grown. The self searching and character development in this story was very well done. As expected, the story is stuffed cover to cover with adventure, drama, action, a little romance and comedy tossed in to leave no dull moments anywhere. I can't wait for the next in the series. As all serial endings, it leaves it open for another face off another day, but at the same time closes the chapter on the events of the plot. I loved this book. Someday someone in Hollywood needs to see this series, it would make awesome action movies.

Writer Ramblings: I Love Haterz

Hate is a strong word, but it has become extremely common and sociably acceptable on the internet today. You can argue that it’s not, but you’ve seen them and their little following. I’m not talking about the internet bully or the trolls. I’m talking about the guy who never has anything good to say. He reviews books or whatever and he really breaks them down and tells everyone who will listen how much he hates your work and will never read your books again.

Ouch a little.

I love that guy. I am not that guy, I can’t relate to that guy. I’ve given tough reviews and most of my toughest were on traditionally published authors, but that is because I expect a lot more from them. I pay a hell of lot more of those books. I am a tightwad. I’m so cheap I squeak when I walk. It’s true; I can’t sneak up on anyone. If it’s not a bargain, I don’t want it anyway. I actually have bought books by an author after not liking his first. I wanted to see if he improved, or maybe the first story just wasn’t my thing and I saw some potential.

Book Recommendation: Wildflowers Come Back

I've chatted with Sarah on her blog and on Twitter and she is one of the most entertaining people to joke around with on the web (She even likes the NFL). When I picked up a copy of her book I expected some of the snarkiness that she usually shares and I then I expected a romance. I don't really know why I thought that, but I figured if her writing was anywhere near as good as her wit, then I could handle some romance. I was blown away. The writing was everything I expected and more. And it really isn't a romance either!

Wildflowers Come BackWildflowers Come Back by Sarah Spann

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I wasn't sure what to expect from this book but I had a feeling I'd be quite entertained. As someone who follows Sarah on Twitter, her witty tweets set my expectations high and I have to say, this book didn't disappoint. I wasn't expecting a paranormal but I caught on by chapter 4 that something wasn't right about the girl talking to Lyss. I was expecting some kind of romance and the book toys around with romance but veers away often to dive into the suspense of serial killers, mysteries and ghosts. The writing was so well done in this book that I have to say by the end of it, I wouldn't have cared what it was about because I loved it. I believe that Sarah Spann is one who will eventually join the ranks of the more reliable Indie Writers that you can count on not only a professional appearance, but excellent editing. This book would get five stars for the story and an additional star if I could for the professionalism that made the book read easy and comfortably.

Book Recommendation: Flash Gold

It's been a rough week for me, and I was intending to write up a post that was a bit emotional about the topic of love and how it affects people and makes them do really strange things, but it ended up being a sad rambling of thoughts. Instead, I am going to treat you with one of the novella's I've read recently and really enjoyed. I don't know how Lindsay Buroker is able to capture the magic of character development, but every book I've read is full of lovable colorful characters. Tonight I share my favorite of her books called Flash Gold. It's a steampunk western style setting and the hero is a woman engineer with a big secret. I won't say too much because I'd hate to spoil it, but you won't be disappointed if you love adventure and action. The characters just come to life and the usual Buroker humor is even crammed into the story. If you're looking for a quick adventure and some laughs, this is the novella for you.

Flash GoldFlash Gold by Lindsay Buroker
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is my kind of story. My only complaint, it wasn't long enough. I really fell in love with the characters almost instantly. Awesome steampunk engineering, and the story never slows. I will be impatiently waiting for another book, another adventure.

And if you have read it already or you do read it and love it as much as I did, the sequel "Hunted [The Flash Gold Chronicles]"is already out. I'm still in the first quarter of it and I'm already enjoying it as it picks up where Flash Gold left off.

Weapons Weekly will return Monday with a special Spartan finale addition. Holiday or not, Writers don't take vacations. See you Monday!

Book Recommendation: A Fistful of Fire

I am not a book reviewer, but I enjoy writing reviews here and there when something actually moves me emotionally either for good or bad. I enjoyed reading this book and I just wanted to share my experience with you guys. This is also one of my earliest Indie book experiences and I have to admit, I actually enjoyed it more than the last couple of big house books I had read before trying Indies.

A Fistful of Fire (Chronicles of Marsdenfel)A Fistful of Fire by Misti Wolanski

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is probably the most different classic fantasy story I've ever read. It has the most unlikely hero and the story keeps on pace and is light hearted and humorous throughout, and at the same time keeps a serious undertone, knowing the protagonist will eventually have to face her past. I was a little confused at the beginning of the story, with the background opening and the references towards the protagonists past, but since reading the book and before writing this review, I have accepted it as something else unique and interesting about how the story unfolds. Confusing as it may be for the reader, imagine how it is for the protagonist, which the story is entirely told in her point of view. The reader just gets to ride the waves of doubts and fears that the poor girl has at what she knows she must eventually do. The only thing that held me back from a five star review is the ending. It wasn’t terrible by any means, but I was a little let down on the way things panned out as the prophecy fulfilled. It wasn’t a bad ending; it’s just that I wanted more out of it (call me greedy). I will be impatiently waiting for the next book of the series. One of the best things of the story is the characters. They are not only all very unique and different from each other; they are colorful mysteries the protagonist must also work out as the story goes.

Book Recommendation: Exiled

I'm not a professional book reviewer, and I don't do a lot of reviews unless the book stirs more emotions than, eh I liked it or I didn't. I don't have much to update other than what I've mentioned in my last post. Writer Ramblings: Writing More Than 1 Novel at a Time? which ended up being sort of an update instead of an actual rambling about people who write more than 1 book at a time. So tonight I share a review I did for a book that came out a month ago, and I'm still waiting for the paperbacks. This is one of my favorite novels.

Exiled, Book 1 Exiled, Book 1 by M.R. Merrick

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is probably one of the most exciting books for me since I read The Sin War trilogy by Richard Knaak.

I love the cover of this book. I want a wall in my house painted just like this picture (and someday I'll be a millionaire and have the money to pay for a wall painted like this, right? I can dream.). The book starts off with a lot of action and the character development is pretty good. I enjoyed the plot, I love a story that appears at first to just be one man’s struggle then suddenly he has to save his world from the forces of evil. I thought some of the story was predictable, but the story was written well enough that it didn’t bother me. I myself wouldn’t have written the story any different. It was excellent. Action filled, but not monotonously so. The hero was likable, and the first person point of view from the protagonist was a fresh take as I’ve only read one other fantasy type novel that stuck with one person’s point of view. There were a couple things towards the first half of the book that look like minor errors. A couple typos, but they didn’t interrupt the flow any more than stopping to notice them before barreling on. I thought about knocking a star off for that, but as I became obsessed with finishing the book, I was satisfied after a very explosive and climatic ending. I am ready for the next installment.

Book Recommendation: The Indie Journey: Secrets to Writing Success

I wrote a review on Goodreads that I really wanted to share with you guys. I'm not a big reader on how-to books, but after reading an interview of Scott Nicholson on Lindsay Buroker's blog back in May, I bought the book and my mind awakened. Everything I have wanted as a writer just lined itself up and finally made sense to me. I was born to do this.

I guess you're wondering why I am just now linking this since it's July. Well, because I really wanted to share my feelings about this book. One of the best books I've ever read. I'd give it 6 stars if it would let me.

The Indie Journey: Secrets to Writing SuccessThe Indie Journey: Secrets to Writing Success by Scott Nicholson

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book is not about getting rich quick through self-publishing. This book is not a hoax. It isn't a technical manual on how to format an e-book. It is not how to write a novel. It is not how to map out an outline. This book is not a breakdown on the engineering of storytelling. That's right folks. This book is what every writer who is even considering Indie Publishing should be reading. This book is the reality of the life of what it takes to be an Indie Writer.

With this book you will begin to understand the true depth and difficulty of self-publishing like a professional. It's no picnic. If you just dusted off a manuscript in your attic after twenty years of rejections and published it as it was as an E-book because you can, then this book is not for you. It's for serious writers who want to be taken seriously. I absolutely love it. Not because I chose to be an Indie Writer myself, but because it made me realize I wasn't alone in my struggles.

Scott Nicholson is the writer, but there are lots of successful Indie Writers, like Zoe Winters, JA Konrath and Vincent Zandri and that guest write chapters inside. They share their experiences and it was wonderful for me.

Another thing this book is not is a Legacy Publishing basher. Scott Nicholson actually compares both, and he has experience in both. He explains why he chose his path and explains the pros and cons of being an Indie Publisher as well as the Pros and Cons of being a Traditionally Published Author.

If you are serious about being an Indie Writer or you just been considering it, this is a must read for you. Actually, it's a good eye opener for the Traditional snobs who still believe that Indie Publishing is for amateurs and vanity writing. It sure opened mine.
