Writer Ramblings: Limitless

Limitless

This movie is about a pill that opens your mind to limitless possibilities. Can you imagine the ability to see the patterns of the things around us that normally we all see as nothing but chaos? With the ability to see every pattern in every aspect of life, you could literally predict the future.

Well, yes and no. The movie takes it to a whole new level, but in reality, we can all achieve this on our own. The only limits in life are what we set for ourselves. Obviously there are still some kinds of limits. Someone paralyzed from the waist down won’t ever be able to run a marathon right? Maybe they can’t, but if they really want to, they can find a way to roll in one. No dream is unachievable, except immortality. That is even questionable depending on what you believe immortality would require. Me? Two things make me believe in immortality. The afterlife, because I believe there is one, and my writing. Long after I’m dead, someone will still be purchasing and buying my novels. Let’s hope that is still very far off though.

I don’t know what it was about this movie that spoke to me so clearly. I only watched it because it was about a writer, then I was pissed when he wrote a novel in 4 days. Yeah right. Even with typing 96 hours straight, that’s at best… let me think… ok forget it. It’s doable. If he is able to type mistake free for 96 hours straight at about 25 words a minute non-stop without any kind of breaks, he could write 144,000 words. That’s almost 500 pages. If only…

That took a magic pill. Not happening for me, and I don’t pop pills unless I have a headache. Getting to my point, this movie really woke me up and helped me drag myself out of a sinking mud pit. I was stuck, felling unimaginative and wondering how in the world I am going to write all these books and stay on top of my husbandly and fatherly duties and hold down a sometimes stressful fulltime job. Well, Stephen King did it, and I’m not him, but he was just a normal dude once. I think he was normal… Ok, as normal as a writer can be. He started out like everyone else and he wasn’t super young, which I’m not either. So here’s to another wake up call, now I’m firing on cylinders again and getting back in the writers chair.

Peace out, and if you haven’t seen this movie, I highly recommend it.

Limitless is the possibilities of your future. Only you can hold yourself back, nobody else has that power unless you give it to them, and even then, that’s still your choice.

  1. I watched this movie on the flight back from Italy. I had no idea what it was about, so went into it blind, and ended up absolutely loving it. Great concept that was well executed!

  2. Totally agree, I wasn't sure what to expect but I was really shocked and the ending was icing on the cake to a wonderfully done story.
